Gloucester’s community is invited to step back in time on Saturday, 10th May, as King’s Square transforms into a nostalgic celebration of the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
Running from 1pm to 4pm, this special event is a collaboration between the Pied Piper Appeal and King’s Walk in Gloucester, offering an afternoon of music, dance and traditional refreshments - all free to attend.
Live swing band Moonlighting will take to the stage, filling Kings Square with the sounds of the 1940s, while VE Day-themed music will play throughout the afternoon.
Guests can enjoy a classic British tea experience, with cakes, tea and coffee available to purchase. All proceeds from refreshments will go towards the Pied Piper Appeal, supporting its vital work for children in Gloucestershire.
Dignitaries including the Gloucester MP, Mayor and Sheriff will be in attendance, showing their support for this officially registered VE Day celebration.
King’s Square will be decked out with patriotic flags and bunting, setting the scene for an afternoon of nostalgia and community spirit.
Jason Robinson, senior destination manager for King’s Walk, said: “King’s Square has always been a space for bringing the community together, and this VE Day celebration is a wonderful way to honour such a historic occasion.
“With fantastic live music, dancing and a warm, welcoming atmosphere, it promises to be a truly special afternoon.”
This free event welcomes people of all ages to come along, enjoy the music, and celebrate the spirit of VE Day in the heart of Gloucester.
