An update has been given on plans more than 700 new homes across Gloucester.
There are several large sites earmarked for new housing in the city.
Among those are the more than 315 homes at Great Western Road sidings, the 280-home Rooftop Housing development at St Oswalds and Bromford’s plans for 180 homes at Snow Capel in Winnycroft Lane, Matson.
Councillor Stephanie Chambers (C, Quedgeley Fieldcourt), who leads the opposition at Gloucester City Council, asked for an update on these sites at the cabinet meeting on September 10.
“I’d like to know if everything is being done that is possible to encourage these areas to get a move on and get them built out as soon as possible,” she said.
Cllr Chambers said the extra homes would help plug the city’s housing gap and provide council tax income to the authority.
“With St Oswalds, is the £2m brownfield land funding protected? And has it not expired?”
Cllr Hilton said the funding is “definitely” protected and Rooftop Housing has had a consultation on their latest plans.
He said they are expecting a planning application soon.
“We know the Great Western Road planning application has been approved,” he said.
“We’ve agreed to change the red tape that was there before so that Bromford can do the southern section and the additional 85 affordable homes they have got funding from Homes England.
“As far as Snow Capel is concerned that was agreed at the July council meeting. Planning permission has been delivered.
“Bromford could be regarded as a quality housing association and I’m sure they will get on and deliver that development.”
Andy Hearne, the council’s head of place, said positive communication from Rooftop that very same day.
He said he has been told by their senior director that the planning application would be submitted this week.
