If any financial results demonstrate just how tough certain markets can be to operate in it is those of Glatfelter Lydney, a major manufacturer of tea bags, coffee filter and wipes papers.
The Forest of Dean firm’s last financial year report, just published, describes conditions so challenging you might have thought the numbers that followed the preamble would be hugely disappointing.
Not so. The firm, which remains confident about the future and is well-backed by its parent company, Glatfelter Corporation Inc, saw its turnover soar 24 per cent and gross profits rocket by 182 per cent.
But as we said, the picture is complicated.
