This little-known Gloucestershire business is a major supplier of softwood to the UK market, represents 52,000 forestry firms, has big carbon reduction ambitions and a turnover of £100m-plus.

A major supplier of softwood to the UK market has said it expects demand to improve in the second half of 2024 after a “reasonable start to the year”, which will be good news for its 'ultimate shareholders' - 52,000 forest owners.
Sodra Wood, said revenue volumes were relatively stable, but revealed that the year just gone turnover fell 31 per cent as average prices also plummeted, by 26 per cent.
The Cirencester firm said prices had already stabilised and it was “anticipating increases” in the months ahead.
In the UK the business employs just over 30 staff, but the firm – which was founded in 1938 - is the largest forest-owner association in Sweden, a democratic organisation with more than 50,000 forest owners as members.
