Gloucester City Homes (GCH) has purchased land in Longford as part of plans to deliver 17 brand-new, energy-efficient social rent homes in the village of Longford, just two miles from Gloucester city centre.
The development, in partnership with Cape Homes and supported by funding from Homes England’s Affordable Housing Programme will be developed in partnership with Tewkesbury Borough Council.
The development includes a mix of one- and two-bedroom maisonettes and two- and three-bedroom houses. All properties will come with dedicated parking and private gardens.
With demand for secure and genuinely affordable homes rising sharply in the local area, this scheme will help meet the urgent need for more housing that people can afford.
It is part of GCH’s wider New Homes Strategy, which aims to deliver 390 new homes to EPC A standards. helping reduce energy bills and futureproof homes for a greener future.
Guy Stenson, GCH’s chief executive officer, said “Everyone deserves a decent, secure and affordable home as the foundation for a healthy and stable life. These are homes for life – thoughtfully designed, sustainable, and secure.
“They will give families and individuals the foundation to plan for the future, stay close to schools, jobs and support networks, and be part of a thriving community.”
All homes in the scheme will be available for social rent and built to the highest environmental standards, achieving EPC A ratings thanks to features such as air source heat pumps and solar PV panels.
The homes are designed to support long-term wellbeing, with 35 per cent meeting enhanced accessibility standards for wheelchair users. Features include level access, wetrooms, and in one case, an adjustable kitchen.
Councillor Alex Hegenbarth, lead member for communities and housing at Tewkesbury Borough Council, said “This development marks a significant step forward in addressing the urgent need for affordable housing in our communities.
“These new homes in Longford will not only provide security and stability for local families but also set a benchmark for sustainable living.
