Stroud’s popular Five Valleys Food Hall has announced expansion plans for one of the centre’s original traders and a brand-new location for one of the newest – marking a further investment in the busy town centre venue.
The award-winning Artisan Baker, owned by Ori Hellerstein, has continued to grow in popularity since joining the Five Valleys line up five years ago.
Now the business is expanding into the neighbouring unit previously occupied by Los Cubanos, which will relocate to a new purpose-built market unit.
Work has started this week on the Market Hall transformation which will also see the creation of a new bar area alongside the Los Cubanos unit – the expanded Artisan Baker and the all-new Cuban restaurant space will be unveiled later in the summer.
The additional space will give The Artisan Baker the much-needed room to expand its baking capacity and meet the growing demands of its wholesale business.
It will also enable the team to broaden their popular range of baked goods and introduce a brand-new café area, offering breakfast, brunch, and lunch options—including fresh sandwiches and toasties.
The move will also provide a larger prep area, along with expanded baking and kitchen facilities to support both retail and wholesale operations.
Ori said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for us to grow our presence at Five Valleys and build on the loyal customer base we've already established.
“Our aim is to create a beautiful café and bakery—similar to what we’ve developed at our Imperial Park branch in Cheltenham—with a fresh menu featuring dishes like Eggs Benedict and our popular shakshuka.
"The expansion will allow us to offer over 20 covers and create a more complete café experience, serving our dishes on elegant crockery in a clean, welcoming setting.
“While dining in, customers will also be able to see our bakers in action through our open-plan bakery—baking fresh goods and showcasing their craft.”
Los Cubanos will take on a space adjoining the seating area in the Food Hall – also creating the colourful new bar area, serving drinks including the Los Cubanos signature Mojito.
The bar is being introduced in response to the Market Hall’s popularity as a evening venue.
All businesses will continue to trade throughout the improvement works which will be completed in the summer.
Owners of Los Cubanos Alexis Medina and H Plewis are looking forward to the move and in the meantime will be operating a pop-up stall at the centre.
Alexis said: “We are really excited about the move to continue offering our Cuban menu, alongside a great drinks offering for guests at the Market Hall.”
Erica Malpass, centre manager at Five Valleys, said: “We are really pleased to be working with two of our fantastic market hall traders on these improvements to our Food Hall and Market at Five Valleys.
“Our late Friday market is really popular, and a new bar area is going to allow us to build on that, creating the potential for more evening activities in the centre. The plans look fantastic, and we can’t wait to see the finished units.”
The Five Valleys Food Hall is home to a great line up of cuisines from around the world as well as French patisserie and home-made cakes.
Customers can enjoy everything from authentic Biryani, delicious sushi and fabulous Thai dishes as well as home baked cakes and macarons. The market and food hall will remain open throughout the improvement works.
