Standout performance by Gloucestershire legal experts

It is that time of year again – when those in the legal profession wait to see if they have been ranked in the latest edition of the independent guide to the best lawyers and firms nationwide.

And this year, celebrating with good cause again, is Cheltenham-headquartered legal experts Willans LLP.

Making it onto the elite list of ‘leading lawyers’ - described by the legal 500 directory as “a guide to outstanding lawyers nationwide” - are no less than three names from the firm.

Dispute resolution partner Paul Gordon, employment law partner Matthew Clayton and commercial property partner Nigel Whittaker are the names in lights.

The guide also tips two senior Willans lawyers as ‘rising stars’ (a term it defines as “standout performers in their own right”) – employment law senior associate Jenny Hawrot and dispute resolution senior associate Nick Southwell.

In total the firm is ranked for 11 specialisms, with its employment law team securing a space in the coveted top tier for the fourth year in a row, across the Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire region.

The firm’s corporate and commercial, commercial property and commercial litigation teams are also recommended within this area.

Recommended across the whole South West are the agriculture and estates, charities and not-for-profit, contentious trusts and probate, family law, private client, property litigation and intellectual property teams.

Sixteen of the firm’s individual lawyers are recommended (some of whom are rated in multiple disciplines).

Bridget Redmond, managing partner, said: “Against the backdrop of the coronavirus crisis, securing another fantastic set of Legal 500 results has given us all a boost and I am extremely proud of our team.

“We’re incredibly lucky to be able to attract and retain lawyers who are at the very top of their game, not just in terms of technical skill, but in their ability to deliver exceptional client care, too.

“Client feedback is a big contributing factor to these rankings and it’s great to see that we’re continuing to hit the mark when it comes to delivering first-class advice in an approachable, straight-talking way.”

The Legal 500 is described as an independent guide to the world’s best law firms. Its results are based on a combination of client feedback, assessment by experienced legal researchers and interviews. Read the results at
