If reputation, pedigree and contacts were worth their weight in gold a certain Cheltenham law firm would be creaking under the strain with its most recent appointment.

Former senior partner of several years standing at one of the county’s biggest and most high-profile law firms, Richard Handley, has joined growing legal practice Converse Law.

Forged just five years ago, its DNA is being shaped by experienced lawyers Richard Spencer and ImdaadSulaiman – whose paths first crossed nearly two decades previously.

Since then, Mr Sulaiman’s career has taken him to the likes of Ireland's largest state-owned utility company and Allied Irish Bank while Mr Spencer became a partner at BPE Solicitors, before joining the Bristol office of Temple Bright as a partner in 2012.

In a move which brings even more serious pedigree to their arsenal, Mr Handley also manages to make the move an inspiring one for anyone who wonders whether they can ever rediscover that magic feeling that once lit the fires that started their career.

Richard Handley, once of BPE Solicitors, said: "After 40 years in the business Converse has shown me there's an even better way of being a lawyer, I could not be happier."

Mr Spencer described his new colleague as “a perfect addition to the team”.

“We are over the moon that Richard Handley has joined the Converse team. He brings over 40 years’ experience of working with Gloucestershire property professionals, and unlimited energy and enthusiasm to our client relationships,” he said.

Converse Law specialises in commercial law, commercial litigation and dispute resolution, commercial property sales and purchases, intellectual property, leases of commercial property, property development.

Mr Handley is well-versed at acting for property developers and investor and describes his specialist subject as development agreements, including options, conditional contracts and land promotion agreements.

Once of Birmingham and Cambridge university he is prone to following West Bromwich Albion FC and rugby.
